Placencia is currently witnessing huge interest from both foreign and local investors, with the real estate market rocketing over the past 12 to 18 months and annual capital appreciation at over 20%. Land has been selling incredibly fast, and there are now very few plots of land left for commercial or resort use. Phase 1 of Placencia's first small scale apartment development was completed in December 2003, with all units selling way before completion. A similar trend has been seen throughout 2004 and 2005, with pre-construction apartments being the most popular investment due to the lower purchase price than that of a completed apartment. Near finished, 2 bedroom apartments on the Placencia Peninsula, comparable to those of Bella Maya are being sold for as much as $475,000.
With expanding tourism in the country, Placencia is set to see price increases for many years, to eventually match property valuations of that seen in other Caribbean destinations.
Tourism in Belize is increasing by over 20% annually, with Placencia being one of the main attractions. The pristine beach peninsula of Placencia is long and narrow paralleling the southern coastline for nearly 12 Miles. It is separated from the mainland by the Placencia Lagoon. From head to foot, its eastern shoreline is embraced with the country's prettiest stretch of beach. The western shore borders the vibrant lagoon and all of its wildlife.
Pavement of the Placencia Road
The residents of the Placencia Peninsula have
something to cheer about. The Caribbean Development
Bank has approved a twelve point six million U.S.
dollar loan to upgrade and pave the Placencia Road.
The twenty-two year loan carries an interest rate of
six point two five percent and five year grace period.
Work is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2007.
The C.D.B. also approved a twenty-five million U.S.
dollar policy based loan to support government's
efforts at debt restructuring and implementation of
corrective financial measures.

Unlike any other destination in Belize, Placencia has two different horizons. One unveils a world of magnificent beaches, crystal-clear waters, spectacular diving, and unspoiled islands; the other reveals wildlife, inland adventures, and a skyline of the Maya Mountains. It is a place that is so peaceful you'll never forget it. Many of the visitors return year after year with their family and friends. Placencia is now one of the country's main tourist destinations, and it is also well visited by Belizeans from across the country on local holidays.
Placencia is reachable by land, sea or air. It has its own airport, with regular flights
traveling to Belize City, a hub for international destinations, taking just 25 minutes.
There are plenty of beautiful islands just off the coast of Placencia. There are professional licensed tour guides within Placencia village. Placencia also offers several dive and snorkel shops along the peninsula. Inland attractions such as the Cockscomb Basin, Victoria Peak, Monkey River, Red Bank, and ancient Maya ruins are all within easy reach.
